Sarah Chapeskie is a freelance musician living and working in Victoria, BC. As a classically-trained pianist, she specializes in collaborative piano, accompanying singers and instrumentalists for festivals, exams, and other performances. She also performs as a soloist, plays background music for parties and events, and offers tutoring in music history, theory, and harmony.
Sarah earned Grade 10 certifications in piano, theory, and history from both the Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada. She is currently working toward her Associate Diploma with the Royal Conservatory and studying for the Diploma in Music Performance offered by the Victoria Conservatory of Music and Camosun College. She has earned numerous awards for her practical and theoretical examinations and for her performances in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, particularly in the fields of Sight Reading and Collaborative Piano. She accompanied Viva Youth Voices for three seasons from 2017-2020 and has worked as an accompanist with singers and soloists from every major instrumental family. In addition to her skill as a pianist, Sarah brings experience as a cellist and a classical soprano, giving her a particular affinity for collaborations with soloists from those disciplines.
In her spare time, Sarah enjoys reading, creative writing, and memorizing obscure facts relating to fantasy literature or science fiction. One of her life goals is to commit to memory all four thousand, two hundred twenty-three lines of J. R. R. Tolkien’s unfinished epic poem, “The Lay of Leithian,” set over six thousand years before the author’s classic trilogy, The Lord of the Rings.
